Erica joined Rios & Cruz in October 2010 as an associate in the Tacoma office. Before joining the firm, Erica practiced immigration law on the U.S./Mexico border with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) where she was the managing attorney for TRLA’s Human Trafficking team and the director of the Legal Orientation Program at the Willacy Detention Center in Raymondville, Texas.
Erica has extensive experience in removal defense, as well as VAWA, U and T visa applications. Currently, Erica’s practice with Rios & Cruz focuses on detained removal cases. Erica holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Wisconsin.
She received a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies and a J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003. Erica has a background in international human rights and has worked on various human rights issues in Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. Erica is admitted to the State Bar of Texas and the Fifth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals. She is a member of the National Immigration Project and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Since 2004, Erica has served on Amnesty International USA’s Refugee Program Steering Committee.
